Kurt Trench loves running a successful auto repair shop with his twin sister Lena. Lately loyal customer Shane Dolan has been coming around more often, and Kurt assumes it’s because of his sister. While Kurt wouldn’t dream of coming between them, he can’t help being drawn to Shane himself…. Or thinking about him in ways he definitely shouldn’t.

One night everything changes. Kurt doesn’t reciprocate Shane’s kiss—he’s got no intention of stealing his sister’s man—but when he tells Lena what happened, she can’t believe how thick her brother is. She’s not the reason Shane’s been coming around the garage, and Kurt and Shane have more in common than a love of classic muscle cars. Now it’s on Kurt to make the next move, assuming he hasn’t blown his chance for good.

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review
This was a nice short story. Kurt is completely clueless in Shane’s attraction to him and tries as hard as he can to keep him at an arm’s length to keep from getting hurt. Kurt desires a partner, but isn’t willing to possibly hurt his sister for that to happen.

Through Kurt’s eyes it is easy to see how he could have been confused in Shane’s intentions when nothing is ever said. Lena and Shane just assume that Kurt will know what is going on but Kurt is a bit bullheaded and refuses to see what he doesn’t think is there. Kurt’s stubbornness hurts himself more than anyone else, but he owns up to his mistakes once he realizes the truth which helped him a bit in my eyes.

Cover art by LC Chase is nice and works well for this story.
First thing I want to say is this book was a super sweet romance that I really thought was very good!

We have Kurt who co-owns the family garage with his sister who all along has a crush on Shane who he thinks is dating his sister. He is completely clueless to why Shane is really there until Shane makes it clear one night, but Kurt still doesn’t get it and pushes him away. I truly thought the author was able to make Kurt's clueless nature so believable that you never question WHY. Because you can see absolutely why.

This story was perfectly made for a short story, because although we do believe Kurt doesn’t see what is in front of his face there was no way you could go 100 pages doing that without it drawing on too long. That being said I think for a short story it was very well developed and the characters were fleshed out. I wish we could have had little more cute lovey stuff which I think, for me, is because Kurt portrays this tough guy on the outside but inside he is just a big mushy (HOT) guy. One thing also is it is a HFN...basically. It ends after the just started dating which isn’t bad but one of two things would make it better...an epilogue or a second book about them.

One negative about the story...the blurb. I’m not sure how the blurbs get checked but someone should change it to have less of the story in it because it basically gives the whole thing away before the reader gets the chance to even read these characters.

I will be looking from more from this author in the future!
Kurt loved owning his own garage, enjoying his work as a mechanic. Shane is a regular customer who gets along well with Kurt’s sister, Lena. Shane might make Kurt run hot, but he refuses to even consider stepping on what he believes is his sister’s turf. Shane, however has other ideas, and when Shane purchases a 1970 Barracuda and asks Kurt to help with the fixing-up, Kurt just can’t say no.

I found this to be a muscle-car-lovers dream of a story. Kurt, Lena and Shane all love speed, cars and a good engine along with getting their hands messy under the bonnet. I’d think that rev-heads should be in romance-heaven with the attention to detail the author gave this story, but I can assure non-car-aficionados (like myself!) that there’s nothing overly complex described, nor did I find the car-related details swamped the sexiness of the story itself.

I was a pretty disappointed with the misunderstanding in the plotline. While initially I found it an excellent conflict point, I couldn’t help but feel it dragged on far too long into the story itself. More than half the length of the book was tied up in it. The plot really shouldn’t – to my mind at least – have dragged on more than a chapter or two, certainly not as long as it did. By well over the middle of the book I felt like it had got to the point of being almost silly, and I was frustrated by how unintelligent it made Kurt appear. Not just because Kurt didn’t realize the truth sooner, but also for keeping his feelings secret from his sister. This lack of understanding and communication really pulled the story down for me and doused a lot of my enjoyment. I really feel this aspect of the plot should have cleared up much faster – and given us more of the book to enjoy Kurt and Shane’s relationship.

Having said that – once Kurt and Shane finally do get together, the sex is hot and fantastic. The two men had been friends for ages and they were perfectly suited. This extended far out of the garage and the joint love of hot, fast cars and moved perfectly into the bedroom. While I might have wished for far more of seeing the two men together – rather than just as friends – I can’t fault the action once it finally begins. I found the sex to be hot and intense, the chemistry sizzling. I thoroughly enjoyed the lovely, happy ending and found it a satisfying finish to the story.
