"...emotionally riveting and intense." -- RT Book Reviews/

"LOST GIRL is smart urban fantasy with the perfect balance of humor and emotion. Vanderlinden combines witty dialogue and an original premise, using the crumbling urban landscape of Detroit as a backdrop for heart pumping action with just the right balance of romance. A great debut effort, and a series I'm eager to follow."
-Elizabeth Hunter, best selling author of the Elemental Mysteries, Elemental World, and Irin Chronicles series

Molly Brooks is a telepathic vigilante with a few secrets and a mysterious past. Determined to make something of her bizarre powers, she devotes herself to saving those who need her most. One night, she's followed by a powerful being in a pickup truck, and her world will never be the same. Finding herself thrust into a world full of supernatural beings she could have only imagined, Molly learns how powerful she really is, and how much she stands to lose.

Combining elements of urban fantasy and paranormal romance, Lost Girl is the first book in the Hidden series by author Colleen Vanderlinden.

Lost Girl Hidden Book One edition by Colleen Vanderlinden Paranormal Romance eBooks

This book was a fast paced, action packed, thoroughly entertaining ride of a story... From the very start I was intrigued and it didn't let up... Not for one minute. It's a fine line to walk to write a story that is all of these things without seeming rushed, but the author achieved a story that was to the point without giving me whiplash. Being the first book in a series it did have the job of setting up the world and storyline to do. While the storyline definitely got off to a roaring start and I did get a good sense of this alternate universe, I do hope that in the subsequent books we get a little more detail about this world and the beings in it.

Molly was a bit of a darker heroine than the usual. Totally bad ass and unpredictable... Actually she probably was bordering on unhinged for a lot of the book! She was definitely conflicted, she didn't for the most part understand her powers or where her place in the world was. She was a loner and pretty prickly towards anyone and everyone. What absolutely didn't help her state of mind was the certain big, gruff Nain... He swept in, shook up her world and her life was never the same. Nain, just like Molly, was dark and light rolled into one, but in his case way way darker. He's not some kind of ex-bad-demon... he's the real deal ex-evil-demon. But he's spent a long time fighting for redemption before rounding up Molly to join his group of assorted supernatural good-guys. I loved the chemistry between these two... The power, the violence, the needing to do good. Their relationship (and sometimes lack of relationship) is what in my opinion really propelled the book along.

I really enjoyed this book but I have to say I am so so SO happy that there is a follow up book to this story because I literally felt like I had the wind knocked out of me by this ending. So let this serve as a warning, if you're after an instant HEA you are going to be left wanting... However, I think this is going to make for a very interesting second book. I'm really looking forward to what Molly does next, whether she keeps her darkness in check or lets it overtake her, so I know the ending to this book was necessary and very smart., because there is no room for a tidy neat anything when you're talking Urban Fiction and that is especially true here.

Lost Girl Hidden Book One edition by Colleen Vanderlinden Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

After reading the premise for this book and seeing the rave review from one of my favorite authors, Elizabeth Hunter, I was chomping at the bit to try this new series. I have a soft spot for Urban Fantasy and kick-ass heroines, what can I say?

The book started out promising. I saw a lot of un-plumbed depth in Molly, our heroine and, despite not really having any kind of knowledge of or interest in Detroit, Vanderlinden created an interesting world with intriguing characters. She had me hooked, and I enjoyed the tension between Molly, Nain and Brennan. But then, at around 75% into the book, I almost put it down. And I was angry. Because I had loved the book so much and committed a huge part of myself to it (you guys know how it is when you really get into a book!), and then the author did something that seemed, compared to the skill she'd exhibited to that point in her writing, sophomoric and lazy. Kind of one of those moments when you think, "Ok, did the author just realize that the book is almost over and her characters aren't where they need to be yet?". When you are pulled out of the world because all you can see is the writer's hand in events.

*SPOILER AHEAD. SKIP NEXT PARAGRAPH TO AVOID*

I was frustrated beyond belief when Molly and Nain suddenly went from sexually frustrated tension to oh-my-god-we're-in-love-there-is-no-one-else-for-me land. Really? It was just too much of a jump for me. Yes, I'd had a feeling they'd end up together, but it seemed like a lot of development was skipped. I really almost stopped reading. I told my husband how upset I was, and then said, "But I'm 75% done! I feel like I can't just stop reading!" He encouraged me to keep reading, and boy am I glad I did.

*CONTINUE HERE IF YOU SKIPPED THE SPOILER*

I did my best to get over my frustration at the jump in story development, and I finished Lost Girl. And you know what? I couldn't stop. I needed more. So I one-clicked Broken Hidden Book Two, and immediately started reading. And I am so very glad I did. After moving ahead a bit into the series, I can see why Vanderlinden did what she did, and it works beautifully.

Buy this book now. If you get frustrated, like I did, keep reading! Then pick up Book 2. You won't be sorry!
The world building in Lost Girl was magical. It is rare for me to read a book with so many supernatural beings and information thrown in, where I don't feel overwhelmed. This story was a slow build and the information and world building was perfectly paced so I was able to wrap my mind around all of the details given. The connection between Nian and Molly is intense and immediate. I love all of the members of Molly's tribe, even her (or should I say, especially her) little minions. The characters are deep and I felt a real connection to a few of them, I have a feeling that in future books I will have a deeper connection with each one as the story grows. As far as that ending goes Colleen, I may or may not have cursed your name for a moment before I realized that the next book is already available...THANK GOONESS!!! 😂😬😬😉 I will definitely be starting book 2 as soon as I can pull myself together.
